Community with Meaning
Klinton Warner, director of the Augusta Rec Commission, continues to be inspired most about the opportunity to bring people together and make a positive impact in our community. Whether it's children trying new activities, families creating memories, or adults staying active and connected, he sees recreation as a powerful way to strengthen community bonds. Through innovative programs and community events, Klinton is committed to creating opportunities where everyone feels welcome and involved. He encourages everyone to get involved, whether by participating in a program, attending an event, volunteering, or simply supporting local activities. Together, small actions can make a big impact and help keep Augusta a vibrant, connected community.
Being Part of Community
Klinton can often be found getting an early start to the day and staying active well into the afternoon. He and his volunteers enjoy talking sports, especially their favorite teams, the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals, and Oklahoma City Thunder. When he's not fishing at the lake, Klinton likes to recharge with a good book, particularly those by David Goggins. He may also be dreaming about his next adventure, whether it's a fishing trip deep in the mountains or an Alaskan cruise.
One of the biggest challenges in building the Augusta Recreation Commission has been finding ways to expand programs and opportunities while complementing, rather than duplicating, the efforts of other community organizations. Through listening, collaboration, and creativity, the focus has been on identifying gaps and creating meaningful activities that serve the community's needs. Throughout that journey, integrity and fairness have remained the guiding values. Decisions are made by considering what is best for the community as a whole, listening to different perspectives, and striving to make choices that are responsible, transparent, and beneficial to the greatest number of people. This approach has helped foster growth while maintaining a strong commitment to serving Augusta thoughtfully and effectively.
"If we can help people connect, build relationships, and take pride in their community, then we're making a meaningful difference."

A strong community is built on connection, involvement, and shared pride. It needs opportunities for people of all ages to participate, along with resources that bring residents together. More than businesses or facilities, thriving communities rely on people who care about one another and are willing to invest in making their hometown better. Accessible recreation, family-friendly activities, local events, and gathering spaces help create a sense of belonging. Ultimately, a strong community is one where residents take pride in where they live and work together to support its continued growth and success.
