Your Guide to Augusta This Week: Monday, August 17th and throughout the Month, Events, News & What’s Coming Up
Hello Augusta Community!
The new school year is officially underway, and it’s wonderful to see students, teachers, and staff back in the hallways! From Go! Augusta and our entire community, we wish all students, teachers, administrators, and staff members a safe, successful, and exciting school year!
Our Augusta High School Athletes Are Making a Difference!
I want to take a moment to share something our community should be proud of—our Augusta High School athletes are giving back!
A couple of weeks ago, AHS Counselor, Janae Mettling and Coach, Brandon Terry reached out to let me know that AHS Athletics and the Booster Club were planning an afternoon of community service for athletes on Friday, August 14, from 4–6 p.m. This was a wonderful opportunity for our students to give back and make a difference in our community.
I reached out to several local nonprofits and organizations to see if they had projects where our athletes could lend a helping hand. I was happy to hear from two organizations that could use some extra hands: the Augusta Senior Center and the Augusta Community Caring Center.
- Augusta Senior Center: The Senior Center was in desperate need of having the sand and debris swept from its parking lot so additional handicapped parking spaces could be made available. However, the cost of having the parking lot professionally cleaned can be expensive. Our AHS athletes stepped up and volunteered their time to help remove the sand and get the parking lot cleaned up!
- Augusta Community Caring Center: The Caring Center needed help organizing its donation room, including sorting shoes and a variety of donated items. Once again, our AHS athletes stepped up and put in the time and effort to help get the room organized and ready to better serve those in our community.
From all of us at Go! Augusta—thank you, AHS athletes! We are proud of you for giving your time, energy and talents back to the Augusta community. Your willingness to serve is a wonderful example of what it means to be a part of a community!
Keep up the great work, Augusta Orioles!
Augusta's ABC Market at the Depot! Our first ABC Market was held on Sunday, August 16th. It was a hot afternoon, but we believe it was a success! We had a variety of vendors that were part of our first market. To see a list of vendors that will be participating in both or one of our next two markets, go to https://www.goaugusta.org/abc-market/
Our goal for the ABC Market is to bring together local farmers, artists, makers, small businesses, nonprofits, food vendors, and the community for an enjoyable afternoon celebrating everything local. We hope you will visit us at our next two markets!
Additional market dates include:
- Sunday, September 20 and Sunday, October 18 / 2:00pm – 5:00pm
