LIFEGUARD SHORTAGE RESULTS IN CHANGES AT CITY POOL FOR SUMMER 2026.
Like many communities, the Augusta Municipal Swimming Pool, located at 1501 Dearborn, is currently experiencing a lifeguard shortage as we head into the upcoming season. We’ve made every effort to recruit and fill these positions, but at this time we are still short approximately 12 lifeguards needed to safely support daily operations, private parties, and programs. We are continuing to recruit and remain hopeful that additional staff will come on board in the coming weeks. Currently, about half of our lifeguard team is 15 years old, which requires us to follow state labor regulations regarding work hours and job duties. As a result, we’ve had to make some difficult decisions to ensure we can operate safely and responsibly. The following adjustments will be in place:
- Hours of Operation (Monday–Saturday, Beginning May 23rd):
- 12:00 – 1:00 PM: Adult Swim
- 1:00 – 5:00 PM: Open Swim
- 6:00 – 8:00 PM: Closed for Private Parties
- For comparison, our previous hours extended to 6:00 PM for open swim, with parties scheduled from 7:00 – 9:00 PM.
- The pool will also be closed on Sundays.
- Unfortunately, we will not be offering swim lessons or water aerobics this season.
- We understand these changes may be disappointing, and we truly appreciate your patience and understanding. Our priority is to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone, and we are committed to returning to a full schedule as soon as staffing allows.
