Go! Augusta Community Business of the Month Spotlight The Holiday Bowl

Historic Icon

The Holiday Bowl is a historic and revitalized small business in downtown Augusta, Kansas, serving as both a family entertainment venue and a community gathering place. Originally built in 1958, the bowling alley helped usher in the Golden Years of bowling and was later expanded from eight to twelve lanes. After sitting closed for five years, and with research, dedication, and assistance from local businesses, the lanes were brought back to life. The Holiday Bowl officially reopened in 2023 following a thoughtful restoration by local owners Lonny Pace and Alyssa Jameson, blending authentic mid‑century design and restored vintage equipment with modern scoring technology and advanced training tools.

Serving Community

The current General Manager, Adam Shumaker, has been with The Holiday Bowl for over two years. Adam moved to Augusta in 2008 for work and developed his skills behind the bar before joining Lonny Pace to learn multiple aspects of the business. His role encompasses everything from overseeing the upgraded entertainment space—featuring new bowling monitors, multiple TVs for a premier sports bar experience, dart lanes, curated rum and whiskey tastings, and a small stage for live music, trivia, karaoke, and events—to mentoring young bowlers. Most of all, Adam enjoys working with kids as they improve their skills and continues to be inspired by their enthusiasm and joy for learning.

Adam values the quiet of early mornings, time spent recharging on the patio, seeing people you have known for years, and the occasional daydream of a trip to Ireland. His favorite Augusta tradition is the Annual St. Patrick’s Day Pub Crawl, when the community comes together. When he’s not supporting local Augusta Oriole sports, he can usually be found cheering on the Atlanta Braves.

Sharing Community

Today, The Holiday Bowl offers bowling, league play, family recreation, live entertainment, and a full‑service kitchen and bar. As a locally owned business, it actively supports the Augusta community by hosting leagues, group events, birthday parties, and social gatherings—contributing to downtown revitalization, meaningful community connections, and the continued strength of Augusta’s small‑business economy.
